Movie Review: Haunted Forest

The story revolves around Aris and his estranged daughter, Nica. When Aris was reassigned, he immediately starts on a case investigating a murder which is staged similarly to the death of a childhood friend that haunts him. While his father is away, Nica, her cousin and her local friends went for an outing where she started to get weird things happen to her. She tries to shake it off at first, but it gets worse day after day.

Haunted Forest is a perfect scare treat this holiday season with its commendable special effects, good actors and story to follow. It's pleasant to see four of the promising young actors and actress of their generation in the big screen with their young spirit, their love angle on the film that brings kilig to the audience and with solid support cast by Joey Marquez, Raymart Santiago and Beverly Salviejo.

Jane Oineza is so good in this film that blends well with Jameson Blake. The promising actress Maris Racal who is also good and natural in this film is consistently doing great on her films from her scene stealing performance to Vince, Kath & James last year up to this year's Bloody Crayons, she now deserves a launching film that will showcase more of her acting. She is very good in supporting the lead actress and Maris can be the next pambansang bestfriend ng mga bida. Jon Lucas brings humor in the film.

As for the brand of horror of this film, its the same style and treatment with Haunted Mansion and Pwera Usog but with better visual effects. I'm really impressed with the well made visual effects that was so smooth. And finally I love the chemistry of Jane and Raymart in the film as daughter and father and the lesson that they impart to the audience. A bittersweet relationship between a parent and a child that many can relate to.

My Verdict:  3.5/5
