Stars of MMFF 2016 Entry Oro Share Experience On Doing The Film

Stars of MMFF 2016 Entry Oro share their experience and learning while doing this true to life socio political film about our local small mining community.

Lead star Irma Adlawan said that this film will teach your child a lot, knowing what is right and wrong, fighting for your right, knowing when to fight and knowing when not to give up.

Mercedes Cabral, Joem Bascon and Sandino Martin appreciate more living in a simple life in which the family that they encounter while doing the film prioritize on how they will earn money to survive for a day but still remains contended and happy in t life.

Acey Aguilar praises the tight solidarity of the community and Biboy Ramirez provides insight on how the small scale mining works in a remote province in which miners work hard even if they are not sure how much are they going to earn for that day.

SYNOPSIS

A community of miners will be infiltrated by an armed group masquerading as environmentalists. The story will center on the efforts of their barangay captain (Irma Adlawan) to secure a permit allowing them to keep their livelihood in mining. In the meantime, the lives of Elmer and Linda who are planning to get married (Joem Bascon and Mercedes Cabral) and their fellow miners (Sandino Martin, Sue Prado, Biboy Ramirez) will be put in danger as the armed group (Arrian Labios, Cedrick Juan) takes over the mining operations and establishes a reign of terror in this remote island that the miners have long considered their home. Which has more weight: human rights or environmental rights? The film tries to capture a topsy-turvy reality much more complex than stereotypes characterizing mining as evil and advocacies for environmental protectionism as the font of goodness.
