Movie Review: How To Be Yours

How To Be Yours is a story about two people who met and fell in love. Niño (Gerald Anderson), a sales agent who's bent on attaining stability and Anj (Bea Alonzo), a self-taught cook who dreams of working in a high-end restaurant someday.

But when love changes their goals, will their relationship survive the struggles? What if the reasons that made them fall in love are not the same reasons for them to go on anymore?

How To Be Yours shines in its simple moments where Bea and Gerald are just natural in their performance. Bea and Gerald together has character chemistry and sincere character moments. I would like to commend the film's screenplay and treatment for its innovative approach of story telling about contemporary relationship.
The camera really loves Bea Alonzo as she registers well on a silver screen. Gerald Anderson on the other hand shines in this film as an actor for his subtle and realistic performance as a boyfriend who's chasing time with his girlfriend's career. Who would forget the housemates of Bea in the film or the squad goal that you would also like to have composed of Alex Medina, Anna Luna, Nicco Manalo, Divine Aucina and Bryan Sy.

Most of the scenes were real, it was intimate, rawly personal and yet universal. Dan Villegas revitalizes the modern relationship drama film in mainstream cinema. It was beautifully worked, experiential and relatable. The production values are high stake, from production design and cinematography that gives an eye candy, music that is so subtle and fit to the emotion of the scene and editing that put together important pieces of a formidable love story that worth watching. I may also add the additional bonus in the film, which is its good theme song "Ambon" performed by Migz and Maya. Overall, How To Be Yours is a good and solid romantic film that makes us realize what to prioritize between love and career, leaving the choice to you.

My Verdict:  4/5
