Review: The Search for Weng Weng

A documentary feature by Andrew Leavold on his obsessive quest to find the truth behind Weng Weng, the Filipino midget James Bond. "The Search For Weng Weng" is the unbelievable true story of the real-life Filipino midget James Bond and the latest Feature Documentary from Australian Guerrilla Film maker Andrew Leavold. Shot over 6 years in Manila, it's the ultimate history of Filipino B-Films and chronicles Leavold's obsessive quest to find the truth behind what really happened to Weng Weng.

I've been able to catch the special screening of this documentary at Cinemanila International Film Festival 2014. The movie serves as an educational movie for me as it traces back one of the important ages of our Philippine Cinema. The 1980's which as we all known the Second Golden Age of Philippine Cinema.

I like the treatment that was done in this documentary na very westernian, Holywood style yung approach. It's very light at the same time educational and entertaining though the core of the documentary about Weng Weng still pounded to the heart of audience. I like the closing bill board of the film. If you think deeper of the message of the film you will now learn to value the potential treasure as an artist that we have in our film industry.

My Verdict: 3.5/5
